Hardly Strictly
Although still about a half of a year away, I wanted to dedicate a post about one of my absolute favorite festivals ever: Hardly Strictly. It is in Golden Gate Park right as the last little breaths of summer are fading away, and the best part about it? It is totally free. Hardly Strictly is a weekend- long festival that starts October 2nd and goes until October 4th. This year, in 2020, it will be the 20th anniversary of the festival so you can definitely expect it to be a good one. Over 80+ artists play every year that vary in genre from bluegrass to rock to folk. The festival days start as early as 11am and go until 7 or 8pm. Another positive to this festival is that you are more than welcome to bring in your own food and drinks (as long as there is no glass). Also, always remember to clean up your own trash or otherwise there is a risk of security not continuing to allow festival goers to have the luxury of bringing your own food and drinks. There are always food and drink vendors, but I'm sure you can guess how expensive those tend to be. Being able to bring in your own food and drinks saves so much money! Plus, I always recommend bringing a nice picnic blanket or two (which the festival encourages) so that you can lay it down and have a space to listen to the music with your friends.
This is a festival that is all about community. Compared to other festivals where you have to spend $300+ just for one single ticket, this festival brings people together of all backgrounds and allows everyone to enjoy it; not just the people that have the money to shell out $300 like it's nothing. I have some of my favorite memories at this festival and I truly believe that it is a special event. San Francisco has so many different arts and culture events and they do a really good job at making them accessible to so many different people at either free or low, affordable prices. The festival lineup for Hardly Strictly this year comes out on September 12th, and I have a feeling that it is going to be a good one. This past year was incredible and below are a handful of pictures that I took at the festival to maybe encourage you to go this year also!
Make sure to check out the Hardly Strictly website that has a plethora of information and history about the festival. It may still be months away, but trust me getting excited and planning for this festival is the best thing you can do to have the best time possible.
